As a supporter of our mission, we're thrilled to invite you to our upcoming benefit concert on Friday, March 8th, 2024, featuring Reggie Harris and Friends, a mesmerizing celebration of music and activism.

With the growing suppression of the teaching of history related to race and racism in our schools, the Living Legacy Project is more committed than ever to ensuring that the stories and lessons of the Civil Rights Movement do not get lost or forgotten.

It's imperative that today’s generations and those to come understand how inequities in the 21st century are rooted in the past and how the courageous actions of those who went before them can serve to both teach and inspire them in their work for justice and equity.

In order to extend our reach in inspiring today's work for racial justice, we need your support.

Why your support matters!

How we plan to impact racism
In order to extend our reach in inspiring today's work for racial justice, we need your support. With your help, we will:
  • Continue our signature pilgrimages to Mississippi and Alabama while developing pilgrimages to other places around the country that have civil rights lessons to share;
  • Partner with more colleges and youth groups to educate students about the importance of linking these stories to present day activism;
  • Offer resources to educators about the Civil Rights Movement; and
  • Continue to inspire and embolden activists with the music of the Civil Rights Movement and today’s protest music.

We invite you to partner with us on our mission!

There’s a particular sense of urgency right now around capturing these stories … so young people can really see their relevance. We must utilize the power of these narratives to connect with the present-day equivalent. We can say, Tyre Nichols, who was killed here in Memphis [last year] and George Floyd aren’t that different from Emmett Till. Or Viola Liuzzo.

COME SING WITH US!

What better way to support our work than to come together to enjoy the incredible music and passion of singer/songwriter/storyteller Reggie Harris and four of his amazing friends? Reggie has earned distinction as one of the foremost interpreters and song leaders of the music of the Underground Railroad and the Modern Civil Rights movement. With a passion for peace and justice, Reggie travels worldwide using his gifts to share hope and raise awareness of human rights in the spirit of Dr Martin Luther King’s beloved community. We are very blessed to have Reggie serving as the Living Legacy Project’s Co-President and Music Education Director.

Joining Reggie at this year’s concert will be:
  • Crys Matthews: Already being hailed as “the next Woody Guthrie,” Crys Matthews is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers.
  • Robert Jones and Matt Watroba: Ever since their first meeting, over twenty years ago, Robert Jones and Matt Watroba have been musical partners. Together, they travel the nation extolling the virtues of “Music That Matters.”
  • Kathy Bullock:An educator, scholar, singer, accompanist, arranger and choral conductor who specializes in gospel music, spirituals and classical works by composers from the African diaspora, and a Professor Emerita of Music from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, Kathy Bullock is currently teaching, performing, and conducting workshops and other programs on African American music throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa.
You won’t want to miss this incredible opportunity to celebrate music that inspires and moves us to action.
