Family Revealed: From Slavery to Hope
Thursday, September 28, 2023

In an evening of engaging music and conversation, two descendants of a Confederate enslaver, one Black and one white, use stories and song to underscore their experience of dealing with the embrace of their unacknowledged historical past to become "present day" family. As two recently embraced cousins, each relates their experience of discovering each other’s deeply held feelings, pain, and hope on their journey of reclaiming history.

The Movement Made Us
Thursday, October 12, 2023

At civil rights worker James Chaney's funeral, Dave Dennis gave one of the most impassioned and remembered eulogies of the Civil Rights Movement. A Freedom Rider, field secretary for CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) and co-director a COFO (Council of Federated Organizations) committee from which later evolved Freedom Summer 1964, Dave Dennis has been at the center of the Mississippi movement since 1961. In 1991, he joined forces with fellow activist Bob Moses to work on the Algebra Project and focused his energy on “quality education as a constitutional right."

Join us for this important discussion with life-long civil rights activist, Dave Dennis. It's sure to be unforgettable conversation.

Civil Rights Activism from Yesterday to Today
Postponed

As a life-long activist, Dr. Zoharah Simmons worked with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and spent seven years working full-time on voter registration and desegregation activities in Mississippi, Georgia, and Alabama during the height of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. She has spent her life focused on human rights, including 23 years with the American Friends Service Committee and as an assistant professor a religion focused on Islamic law and its impact on contemporary Muslim women.

This is sure to be a fascinating conversation with a powerful force in the work toward a more just, equitable, and peaceful society.
