March 25-29, 2020 Alabama Living Legacy Pilgrimage (5 days/4 nights)
This Alabama Living Legacy Pilgrimage comes at a time of great urgency in our country as the very essence of civil and human rights are being challenged with every passing day and with every tweet! And yet, the spirit of freedom has not been silenced, as evidenced by the millions who came out to vote in the recent mid-term election. This was and is today’s civil rights movement at its best!
So, in that spirit, we invite you to join this journey. You will meet people, hear stories, and visit sites that made the Civil Rights Movement an event that rocked the world. This five-day, four-night pilgrimage includes the following:

Registration InformationEarly-bird Registration is open through Monday, 1/20/2020 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) $1,125.00 (double occupancy rate, per person) $1,423.00 (single occupancy rate, per person) General Registration 1/21/2020 through 2/29/2020 $1,325.00 (double occupancy rate, per person) $1,623.00 (single occupancy rate, per person) FINAL REGISTRATION DATE is February 28, 2020. All registrations after this date will be confirmed on an availability basis only. What does the fee cover? The registration fee is quite inclusive, covering all lodging, meals, site admissions, and bus transportation during the Pilgrimage. You are responsible for travel to and from Birmingham, AL, and personal gifts, donations, suggested tips for the driver ($10 per day), tips for room accommodations ($3-$5 per day), and incidentals during the Pilgrimage. Access to ATMs is limited so please carry enough cash, credit cards, travelers checks, etc, to handle these expenses. Transportation to Birmingham This trip begins and ends in Birmingham, AL. Nearest airport is the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. NOTE: The trip is dependent on getting a minimum number of registrations. We will make a decision about whether it's a go by no later than January 21, 2020, so please don't make your airline reservation until after that date. Living Legacy Project cannot be responsible for trip cancellation fees incurred if you reserve before this date. Birmingham is also serviced by Amtrak. In Birmingham, we'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport 5000 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd N, Birmingham, AL 35212, Phone: (205) 591-6900 The Holiday Inn offers a free airport shuttle. Call them for pick-up when you arrive. Please plan to arrive at the hotel and be settled in by 4:00 p.m. Central Time. On Sunday, March 29, do not make reservations for flights that leave Birmingham before 5:00 pm. We cannot promise that we can make it back to the Birmingham Airport in time for earlier flights. Cancellation Policy Cancellations before January 31, 2020, will receive a refund of all but a $100 administrative fee. Although we will do our best to provide refunds after this date, we might not be able to if we cannot refill your seat. If we have to cancel the trip, we will offer a full refund. Travel Insurance We're sorry, but we cannot offer a refund in the event your transportation is cancelled or delayed for any reason. We suggest you consider purchasing trip insurance in case weather or illness prevents you from participating. Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) is an optional travel insurance benefit available on some plans. Usually, this benefit is an additional charge on the plan, but it comes with extended coverage that you may find worthwhile. Learn more on our blogRead what one recent traveler said about her experience on Read "Stories of Resilience" from our November, 2016 Living Legacy Pilgrimage Financial AssistanceThrough the generosity of our donors, a limited number of financial assistance grants are available if you cannot afford to pay the entire fee. Scholarships of up to $750 (and possibly more) can be awarded by the Financial Aid Committee, based upon information provided in your application. A scholarship award applies to double-occupancy only. If you do not have someone you can room with, someone will be assigned to you.
The deadline for receipt of financial aid applications is December 15, 2019. Following notification of scholarships, the balance of fees not covered by the scholarship is due by January 31, 2020. Please do not register for the Living Legacy Pilgrimage until you are notified that a determination about financial assistance has been made. We hold seats for financial assistance applicants. The Living Legacy Project, Inc. partners with First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond, which serves as its fiscal agency.
