March 20-24, 2019 Alabama Living Legacy Pilgrimage (5 days/4 nights)

his Alabama Living Legacy Pilgrimage comes at a time of great urgency in our country as the very essence of civil and human rights are being challenged with every passing day and with every tweet! And yet, the spirit of freedom has not been silenced, as evidenced by the millions who came out to vote in the recent mid-term election. This was and is today’s civil rights movement at its best!

So, in that spirit, we invite you to join this journey. You will meet people, hear stories, and visit sites that made the Civil Rights Movement an event that rocked the world.

This five-day, four-night pilgrimage includes the following:
  • We will start in Birmingham, Alabama, where the 1963 bombing at the 16th Street Baptist Church killed four little girls, Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley, woke up the world and the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth made his voice heard.
  • In Montgomery, we’ll visit the Rosa Parks Museum and the new National Memorial for Peace and Justice (also known as the Equal Justice Institute's Lynching Memorial).
  • Selma, of course is included, with a solemn march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, meeting a veteran of Bloody Sunday, and participating in a Sunday church service at the iconic Brown Chapel AME Church.
  • The trip continues through Marion, where Jimmie Lee Jackson’s shooting by a State Trooper sparked the Selma to Montgomery March, and where the Perry County Three were charged in 1985. We'll then return to Birmingham for your journey home.
In addition to visiting historic sites, we meet veterans, many of them unsung heroes and foot soldiers of the civil rights movement. As a spiritual pilgrimage, we reflect on what we experience together so when we each return home we can apply what we have learned to make a difference in today's world.

Now is the time to set a new agenda for gaining the knowledge and building a community of willing leaders who will stand in the gap as brave veteran of the civil rights struggle have done for so many decades.

Come take your place on the long trail of history. Come see, learn, sing and make a new way and stand up for justice.

The time is NOW! Your legacy is waiting!
