POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

We are currently seeking an Executive Director to lead us in our mission. 

Mission-driven nonprofit organization committed to dismantling racism and systems of oppression through experiential education about the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. seeks a part-time Executive Director. Responsibilities include leadership and program development, fundraising and financial management, oversight or management of online programs, organizational management, strategic communications and board relations.

Must embrace core values that include capacity to learn, grow and change; kindness and compassion; commitment to justice; problem-solving; and good humor. This position requires experience in leadership, financial management, and nonprofit operations.

Skills in budgeting, fundraising, staff oversight, and high-level marketing strategy are essential. Prior experience working with boards, managing programs, and guiding organizations through strategic growth will set candidates apart.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position of Executive Director reports to the Living Legacy Project Board of Directors. This is an autonomous role that requires a person who is a creative self-starter with a passion for the work of the Living Legacy Project. Occasional travel is required. 

1. Leadership & Program Development
  • Provide leadership in developing programs with the Board of Directors and carry out Board-approved plans and policies.
  • Work with the Pilgrimage and Webinar Planning Teams to organize general and custom pilgrimages and webinars (high-level oversight and strategic direction).
  • Serve as liaison with program partners.
  • Promote volunteer participation (strategic oversight of volunteer engagement).
2. Financial Management
  • Develop an annual budget in coordination with the Treasurer for the Board’s approval (strategic budgeting and financial planning).
  • Work with the Treasurer and the Board to solicit donations and implement fundraising efforts (high-level fundraising strategy and donor relations).
  • Authorize and manage expenditures (within limits set by financial policies).
3.  Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Organizational Management
  • Develop and maintain SOPs related to program, financial management, and operations (oversee and approve policies).
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements (e.g., taxes, insurance, financial reporting, charity registrations, in collaboration with the Bookkeeper and Treasurer).
  • Supervise support staff as required. 
4. Marketing & Communications (Strategic)
  • Implement a marketing plan developed with the Board (high-level strategy and branding, rather than day-to-day tasks).
5. Board Relations
  • Maintain close collaboration with Board members. Report to the Board and handle communication between staff and board members.

Competencies
This position requires experience in leadership, financial management, and nonprofit operations. Skills in budgeting, fundraising, technology, staff oversight, and high-level marketing strategy are essential. Also, prior experience working with boards, managing programs, and guiding organizations through strategic growth desired. 

Compensation
This is a half-time salaried position (20 hours/week) with a flexible schedule. Salary is $36,000 annually. The position includes FICA and a generous paid time-off policy for holidays and vacation. This is a remote position which begins on May 1, 2025.
